The best way to begin bathroom remodeling, developing a bathroom plan is to clarify what you want and need. Do you want a place to bathe the kids,
a luxurious adult retreat, or a stylish half-bath where guests can freshen up. When you know exactly how the room will be used,
we can work on developing a design with you that works for you. When you are deciding what features your bathroom should include,
focus on the specific needs and preferences of the people who will use it.
master baths No longer just a washroom attached to the bedroom, the master bath now features luxurious amenities, from sitting areas
and entertainment centers to
fireplaces and panoramic views. The once ubiquitous boxy white bathtub has been replaced with a whirlpool or soaking tub, and the shower may feature water-massage jets for a soothing spa
experience. Today's master baths are much larger and more luxurious than those built a generation ago.
shared baths If your bathroom will serve more than one person at a time, it should offer each user a little personal space. The key is to compartmentalize fixtures rather than to arrange them around the perimeter of an open room. A typical configuration isolates the toilet and shower from the sink and grooming area.
Ideally, the toilet should be concealed in a separate "water closet", but a low wall or even a decorative screen can provide a measure of privacy.
To effectively accommodate multiple users, a shared bathroom typically should have two sinks, as well as a personal storage area for everyone.
Whether you decide to get a dual-sink vanity installed or separate pedestal sinks, each grooming station should have a mirror, or electrical outlet, and adequate lighting.
The privacy can be
enhanced by installing an opaque shower door and concealing the tub behind a translucent pocket door, a freestanding screen, or a ceiling mounted curtain.
children's baths A shared bath that will be used mostly by children has to be kid friendly, low maintenance, and above all, safe. It should also be easy to update as the kids grow older and their needs, tastes and sizes change. Though bright colors and bold designs add an important element of fun, a bathroom with real child appeal is one that's easy for kids to use.
Situate the bathroom in a convenient location, if possible, such as in between two children's bedrooms and a door on each side. Shelves, towel bars, and clothe hooks should be put within easy reach of the children.
For safety, slip-resistant flooring and skid proof rugs, and a tub with a textured bottom if possible is probably a better choice.
powder rooms A two fixture, toilet and sink, bathroom is a public area of the house, the powder room is also known as a half-bath.
Because it is small yet conspicuous, it should be carefully planned. A powder room should be private, so the door should not open into a public area such as the living room, or kitchen.
Ideally, it should be off of a hallway. If you are thinking of remodeling a powder room that's poorly place, there maybe a possibility to reconfigure access to the room. If not, it is better to
start over in a new spot. A powder room's diminutive size makes it the perfect place to splurge on marble flooring or hand-painted tiles, since there is small quantity of material required.
Because it is infrequently used, it's also the ideal place to use less practical decorative finishes such as copper and glass. Soft, indirect lighting and a
generously proportioned mirror will add an elegant touch and make the room appear larger.
